Matthew attended Saltus Grammar School from 1996 to 2009. He successfully passed GCSEs in nine subjects at top grades. Recently, he graduated with Distinction in the top 5% of the class from Saltus with five Advance Placements and achieved top level scores in Economics, Calculus and Physics. During his time in the Saltus Graduate Year course, he was on the Headmaster’s and Honour Roll. He received prizes in mathematics and chemistry and was chosen by the faculty to receive the Deloitte High School Student Award.

In March, 2009, Matthew was named the 2009 Most Outstanding Teen (male academic and overall winner) by the Bermuda Department of Teen Services. Matthew has also received the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver awards.

Matthew has a love of music. He helped found a local rock band, Secret Po-Po, where he is lead guitar and singer. They have played in local clubs in Bermuda and performed with international acts coming to the island, including a performance at the Bermuda Music Festival.

Matthew has made a number of contributions to the community. He played an important role in helping to re-vitalize the Keep Bermuda Beautiful charity and has participated in almost every clean-up since 2004. He has also worked with the Salvation Army on their nightly soup distribution runs to the homeless.

Matthew intends to enter McGill in September, 2009 to study at the Desautels Faculty of Management.
